Lake Alice has high expectations for behavior of students, individually and collectively. We expect them to act appropriately in varying situations and exercise good judgment and common sense. We have one behavioral goal: RESPECT: respect for people and respect for property. There are not a lot of lists of do’s and don’ts here. We find that leaving room for trial and error with regard to behavior results in better learning and retention and makes students think before they act. Improvement in the area of discipline has been monumental. Special events such as the 8th grade trip must be earned by appropriate behavior during the school year. The board and school have limited tolerance for offenses. The first offense is a discipline slip signed by parents, the second results in a conference and the third results in action (suspension, expulsion, etc). Taxpayers want education, not policing of behavior.
