Lake Alice is the recipient of two grants this school year. The Rural School Education Grant (just over $16,000) is one that we have received for three consecutive years. We set up a state of the art computer lab with a computer teacher, wireless internet capacity; enough hardware and software to allow the teaching of one lab student per computer. Computer classes are scheduled for K-8th grade and many students also use the lab during recess for research and other school projects. Students are now learning to plot their own achievement by entering progress/grades/scores on spreadsheets. We have also used the REAP grant for the purchase of a visagraph which will help diagnose and remediate visual performance problems in children. We have found that the routine vision screening is not adequate in diagnosing the reading problems encountered in school activities. We will have a teacher trained in the use of the visagraph and both school and home programs for remediation.
The second grant is with Title I Part B. It is a grant used to help expand Special Education programs in our school.
