| INFORMATION PROCESSING 0321 CREDITS: 5 PER SEMESTER PREREQUISITE: J.H. KEYBOARDING GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Students will focus on increasing their speed and accuracy in using the computer keyboard, resulting in the development of a marketable job skill using the computer. Students will learn formatting techniques for personal business/business letters, memos, and unbound reports. Students will also be introduced to mail merge, simple spreadsheets using Excel, and PowerPoint. The exercises and simulation projects in this course offers students practical experience in producing personal and professional documents. MODE OF PRESENTATION: Text, computer, discussion, and student activities COURSE INTENDED FOR: 9th GENERAL BUSINESS 0302 (Fall Semester) CREDITS: 5 PER SEMESTER PREREQUISITE: INFORMATION PROCESSING This course begins with an introduction to the types of businesses and organizational structures of businesses. Students will become entrepreneurs and explore the world of business through the creation of their own business. Students will develop a marketing strategy, write a business plan, study management techniques and discuss the social responsibility of the business community. COURSE INTENDED FOR: 10th PERSONAL FINANCE 0322 (General Business Spring) CREDITS: 5 PER SEMESTER PREREQUISTITE: INFORMATION PROCESSING GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Students are introduced to the fundamental principals of personal finance. Through hands on activities, students will learn how to manage a checking account and reconcile a bank statement. Topics for discussion also include personal financial planning, use of credit, savings plans and risk management. Students will explore the stock market through an on-line stock market simulation game. This course also offers a brief unit, Career Exploration, which will help students make a plan that will lead to an enjoyable career and financial security. Students identify their self-interests, learn how to research careers, discover possible career paths, explore different jobs, and develop a career plan. Students will learn how to prepare essential job acquisition documents and participate in a mock job interview activity. MODE OF PRESENTATION: Lecture, textbook, discussion, activities/projects COURSE INTENDED FOR: 10th ECONOMIC PERSPECTIVES 0303 (Spring Semester) CREDITS: 5 PER SEMESTER PREREQUISTITE: GENERAL BUSINESS GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This course begins by giving students an overview of basic economic concepts and terminology. Students will study the world of economics from both the microeconomic and macroeconomic perspective. From the microeconomic perspective, the class will explore the choices made by consumers and producers in the market place and how those choices affect supply and demand. The macroeconomic perspective includes topics such as GDP, unemployment, inflation, the money supply and the Federal Reserve System. MODE OF PRESENTATION: Lecture, textbook, discussion, on-line activities COURSE INTENDED FOR: 10th, 11th, and 12th ACCOUNTING 1 0334 CREDITS: 5 PER SEMESTER PREREQUISITE: GOOD UNDERSTANDING OF MATHEMATICS GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This first year accounting course focuses on the General Journal approach to accounting. Students will learn basic accounting concepts and procedures for several different types of business organizations such as: a service business organized as a sole proprietorship; a merchandising business organized as partnership; and a merchandising business organized as a corporation. Students will keep financial records and prepare financial reports for simulation companies. The objective of the course is to provide students with accounting knowledge that will prepare them for an office position or for further study of business in college. COURSE INTENDED FOR: 11th and 12th ACCOUNTING 2 0343 CREDITS: 5 PER SEMESTER PREREQUISITE: B AVERAGE IN ACCOUNTING 1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This course has been designed to build on the accounting concepts and procedures learned during your first year accounting course. The focus of this course will center on cost accounting, managerial accounting, not-for-profit accounting and financial analysis. Students will explore accounting for corporations and learn inventory methods. Accurate financial records analysis is another major focus of this course. MODE OF PRESENTATION: This course is currently offered as an independent study course.
