GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Civics is a yearlong course designed to inform students on their rights and responsibilities of being a United States Citizen. The Course will focus on becoming informed on how the government works, how it affects our lives, and how we can make it better.

MODE OF PRESENTATION: Small/large group discussion, lecture, role-playing, worksheets, films, current event research, special projects, simulations

GEOGRAPHY 1209

CREDITS: 5 PER SEMESTER

PREREQUISITE: NONE

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: World Geography includes the study of the physical, cultural, and political environment of the Earth.

MODE OF PRESENTATION: Emphasis will be placed on locating places, that is cities, capitals and countries. Regions specifically covered will be Europe, Asia, and the Pacific World and the United States and Canada. Lecture, discussion, demonstrations, map work will be used.

WORLD HISTORY 1202

CREDITS: 5 PER SEMESTER

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The students will be introduced to the major events, people and locations beginning with the Age of Revolutions, approximately 1600 AD. The emphasis will be on cause and effect, technological advances, geographic locations and how they affected the advancement of civilization.

MODE OF PRESENTATION: Lecture, textbook, films, role-playing, overhead transparencies, maps, current events, and research.

US HISTORY 1203

CREDITS: 5 PER SEMESTER

PREREQUISITE: NONE

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The students will be taught the important events, people, and locations of American History beginning with Reconstruction to present day. Emphasis will be on cause and effect.

MODE OF PRESENTATION: Lecture, role-playing, films, overhead transparencies, worksheets, oral reports and library research.

COURSE INTENDED FOR: 9th – 12th

GOVERNMENT 1204

CREDITS: 5 PER SEMESTER

PREREQUISITE: CIVICS or US HISTORY

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: First semester, the student will be taught the basics of the American Government System. Students will learn the history of our government, the Constitution, the three branches of government and American political behavior. Second semester, the student will be taught the basics of the American legal system. Students will gain understanding of the roles that law, lawyers, law enforcement officers, and the legal system play in our society.

MODE OF PRESENTATION: Reading, discussion, lecture, films, tests, role-playing, guest speakers, oral reports, essays, research report, participation in mock simulations, and field trips.

PSYCHOLOGY (Year long course) 1240

CREDITS: 5 PER SEMESTER

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Students will be taught about the history, theories, and processes of the field of psychology. Students should understand the physiology of the body and how it affects behavior, the motivations and perceptions of human behavior, the development processes of human beings, and the variety of methods utilized to measure human reactions to conflict, frustration, and stress. Students will also be presented with information about psychology careers.

MODE OF PRESENTATION: Reading, discussion, homework, questions and answer, tests, essays, quizzes, research, guest speakers, and video tapes
