| GLOBAL SCIENCE 0201 CREDITS: 5 PER SEMESTER PREREQUISITE: NONE GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Earth science presents a study of fundamental concepts in geology, oceanography, meteorology, astronomy and ecology. It is designed to promote an understanding of basic concepts, models, and theories through investigation and experimentation. MODE OF PRESENTATION: investigations, group discussions and activities, lecture, textbook, question and answer. COURSE INTENDED FOR: 9th PRACTICAL BIOLOGY 0220 CREDITS: 5 PER SEMESTER PREREQUISITE: NONE GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Specifically designed to reach those students who may have had less success in science in the past or who have no interest or possibility of pursuing a college degree. MODE OF PRESENTATION: Lecture, textbook, study guides, transparencies, inquiry technique, lab exercises & dissection, discussion. COURSE INTENDED FOR: 10th-12th BIOLOGY 0202 CREDITS: 5 PER SEMESTER PREREQUISITE: NONE GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Biology is the study of the structure, growth and function in the life systems of selected organisms. The course encompasses historical contributions to biological concepts, energy production, transfer and use in living systems and the interrelatedness of organisms with each other and the environment. Observations are made of living organisms, prepared specimens, various ecosystems and inherited traits. MODE OF PRESENTATION: Investigation, group discussion and activity, lecture, textbook, simulation COURSE INTENDED FOR: 10th 12th PHYSICS 0234 CREDITS: 5 PER SEMESTER PREREQUISITE: COMPLETED ALGEBRA I WITH A C OR BETTER. COURSE INTENDED FOR:11th-12th GENERAL DESCRIPTION:This course is designed to apply many algebraic concepts. Many formulas are used to solve problems that deal with velocity, acceleration, force, energy and work, light, waves, motion in two dimensions, universal gravitation and electricity. Group presentations and research projects are also part of this class. MODE OF PRESENTATION: Lecture, sketches, teacher lead examples, some lab work, use of graphing calculator, small group work and class presentations. CHEMISTRY 0204 CREDITS: 5 PER SEMESTER PREREQUISITE: Completed Algebra II with a C or better. GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Chemistry is the study of the structure, composition and behavior of matter. The course of study emphasizes the investigation of matter, its interactions, and the factors affecting the interaction. Chemistry stresses the observation of matter and its behavior, classification of matter, communication of data, measurement of chemical quantities, prediction of chemical phenomena, and manipulation of chemical investigations. MODE OF PRESENTATION: Lab investigations, lecture, textbook, discussion, and small group work. COURSE INTENDED FOR: 11th - 12th PHYSIOLOGY 0243 CREDITS: 5 PER SEMESTER PREREQUISITE: 11th, SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF BIOLOGY GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Physiology is a laboratory-oriented course in which students investigate the structure and function of the components of the human body. Students investigate anatomical structures and regulating mechanisms that influence how systems function. MODE OF PRESENTATION: Lecture, textbook, lab investigations, discussion COURSE INTENDED FOR: 11th -12th |
