SPANISH I 1301

CREDITS: 5 PER SEMESTER

PREREQUISITE: NONE

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Spanish I addresses five basic goals at the beginning level: 1) Communication, 2) Culture, 3) Connections, 4) Comparisons, and 5) Communities.

MODE OF PRESENTATION: TPRS—Total Physical Response Storytelling allows the student to internalize the sounds and structure of the language (much as the student acquired language as an infant) before being required to speak. Gradually the focus
expands to all four communicative skills—listening, reading, speaking, and writing. Music, drawing, and actions are some of the right brain activities that are used to enhance long-term retention of vocabulary. Reading, writing, and cultural activities are occasionally textbook based, with some workbook stimulation of written expression.

MATERIALS REQUIRED: Loose-leaf notebook with 5 dividers, pen and pencil, & crayons or colored pencils.

COURSE INTENDED FOR: 9th-12th

SPANISH II 1302

CREDITS: 5 PER SEMESTER

PREREQUISITE: SPANISH I

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Spanish II addresses five basic goals at the developing level: 1) Communication, 2) Culture, 3) Connections, 4) Comparisons, and 5) Communities.

MODE OF PRESENTATION: Continued use of TPRS—Total Physical Response Storytelling-along with music, drawing, and actions are right brain activities that enhance long-term retention of vocabulary. Emphasis is placed on all four communicative skills—listening, reading, speaking, and writing. Many readings and cultural activities are textbook based, with some workbook stimulation of written expression.

MATERIALS NEEDED: Loose-leaf notebook with dividers, pen, pencil, and crayons or colored pencils.

COURSE INTENDED FOR: 10th-12th


SPANISH III 1303

CREDITS: 5 PER SEMESTER

PREREQUISITE: SPANISH I & II

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Spanish III addresses five basic goals at the developing level: 1) Communication, 2) Culture, 3) Connections, 4) Comparisons, and 5) Communications.

MODE OF PRESENTATION: As in Spanish II, continued use of TPRS—Total Physical Response Storytelling-along with music, drawing, and actions are right brain activities that enhance long-term retention of vocabulary. Emphasis is placed on all four communicative skills—listening, reading, speaking, and writing, with the goal of developing greater fluency. Many readings and cultural activities are textbook based, with some workbook stimulation of written expression.

COURSE INTENDED FOR: 11th-12th

SPANISH IV 1304

CREDITS: 5 PER SEMESTER

PREREQUISITE: SPANISH I, II, III
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Spanish IV addresses five basic goals at the expanding level: 1) Communication, 2) Culture, 3) Connections, 4) Comparisons, and 5) Communications.

MODE OF PRESENTATION: Readings in literature, culture, and history. Discussion, communicative activities, including role-playing. Continued use of total physical response storytelling and music for vocabulary retention. Some workbook stimulation
and textbook exercises; several special projects to develop oral and written fluency in Spanish.

MATERIALS REQUIRED: Loose-leaf notebook with 5 dividers, pen, pencil, crayons or colored pencils.

COURSE INTENDED FOR: 12th
